Unit 1: Advanced bookkeeping
In this unit, your employees will learn about applying the principles of advanced double-entry bookkeeping, implementing procedures for the acquisition and disposal of non-current assets, preparing and recording depreciation calculations, recording period end adjustments and producing and extending the trial balance.
Unit 2: Final accounts preparation
Within this unit, your employees will learn about distinguishing between the financial recording and reporting requirements of different types of organisation, the need for final accounts and the accounting and ethical principles underlying their preparation, as well as preparing accounting records from incomplete information, producing accounts for sole traders and partnerships, and the key differences between preparing accounts for a limited company and a sole trader.
Unit 3: Management accounting: Costing
This unit will provide your employees with an understanding of the purpose and use of management accounting within an organisation, applying techniques required for dealing with costs, apportioning costs according to organisational requirements, analysing and reviewing deviations from budgets and reporting these to management, and applying management accounting techniques to support decision making.
Unit 4: Indirect tax
This unit will provide your employees with an understanding of applying VAT legislation requirements, accurately completing VAT returns and submitting them in a timely manner, the implications for the business of errors, omissions, late filing and payment, as well as reporting VAT-related information within the organisation in accordance with regulatory and organisational requirements.
Unit 5: Ethics for accountants
In this unit, your employees will gain an understanding of the need to act ethically, the relevance to the accountant’s work of the ethical code for professional accountants, how to act ethically in an accounting role and identify actions to take in relation to unethical behaviour or illegal acts.
Unit 6: Spreadsheets for accounting
This unit will allow your employees to design and structure appropriate spreadsheets to meet customer needs, use spreadsheet software to record, format and organise data, use relevant tools to manipulate and analyse data, use software tools to verify accuracy and protect data and use tools and techniques to prepare and report accounting information.
Additional synoptic assessment preparation
Your employees will also be given an additional bonus revision unit for the synoptic assessment. This additional unit includes revision sections for the key topics presented throughout all six units. This unit is built to give you an indication as to which areas need to be further revised and will help to identify your strengths and weaknesses.
